DISQUE BRAILLE prevê dois pontos de atendimento, um na Universidade e São Paulo e outro no Centro Cultural São Paulo. Tal destinação refletiu negativamente junto à comunidade universitária, pois representou não só o sucateamento e a redução do acervo, mas também o descrédito do setor. Objetivando ampliar de forma significativa o seu acervo, o SIBAJFES vislumbrou numa ampla campanha de doação de material bibliográfico um caminho seguro para alcançar resultados positivos. Foi estabelecida como meta a ampliação do acervo em 10%, isto é (dez mil) volumes. Do lançamento do projeto em agosto/93 até o mês de dezembro foram arrecadados 20.000 (vinte mil) volumes e 700 (setecentos) títulos de periódicos, o que superou em 100% a meta estabelecida. Com o PROJETO NOSSO LIVRO, o SIB/UFES não somente ampliou o seu acervo, mas também tem sua imagem fortalecida. Como conseqüência, houve um considerável aumento na utilização dos produtos e serviços oferecidos pelas unidades do Sistema de Bibliotecas. Os resultados deixam evidente que posturas novas e criativas e ações de vanguarda são capazes de superar as crises e incorporar a antecipação de mudanças. Trata-se de assunto de difícil definição tendo em vista, principalmente, a falta de tradição de cobrança de serviços de biblioteca, reforçado pelo fato da maior parte das bibliotecas universitárias estarem ligadas a Universidades públicas que, normalmente, não cobram pelos serviços prestados à comunidade. Mas, levando-se em consideração a redução sistemática de recursos para manutenção e ampliação das atividades das bibliotecas, é de salutar importância a definição de custos de serviços para uma posterior política de preços. Os procedimentos adotados para realização do estudo foram: revisão bibliográfica da literatura nacional, consulta a literatura internacional disponível e diagnóstico dos serviços oferecidos pelas bibliotecas da USP. Com auxílio da assessoria, definiu-se uma fórmula para cálculo de custo aplicando-a ao levantamento bibliográfico em CD-ROM para teste. Mediante os resultados a serem obtidos, essa fórmula poderá ser aplicada para definição de custo de outros serviços de apoio à pesquisa disponíveis nas bibliotecas da USP e instituições congêneres. Até que ponto a biblioteca universitária participa e contribui para o avanço desse projeto? É exatamente essa inexistência ou, no máximo, raridade de relações sistemáticas e orgânicas entre os diferentes graus de escolaridade e, mais especificamente, entre as fases de vivência do processo de leitura em bibliotecas escolares que acentua os rumos do necessário e do possível às questões específicas deste fórum. Em termos gerais e sempre lembrando que existem muitas exceções à regra, as bibliotecas universitárias conseguiram construir e assentar acervos e serviços mais à altura das necessidades de leitura dos estudantes que nelas adentram. Tendo em mira essa necessidade e delineado o horizonte da necessibilidade, ficam sugeridas duas perguntas básicas para discussão neste painel: (1) Considerando a fragmentação existente entre os níveis de escolaridade do sistema educacional brasileiro, de que forma(s) a biblioteca universitária pode se debruçar nas necessidades das escolas de 1° e 2° grau sem que os seus próprios serviços fiquem descaracterizados e/ou prejudicados? (2) Para quem especificamente a biblioteca universitária deve voltar as suas ações no sentido de conseguir uma globalização na esfera da formação do leitor e da promoção da leitura? Que condições devem ser garantidas no sentido de conseguir resultados duradouros através dessas ações?
