O formato Catalogação Legível por Computador (CALCO) tem facilitado a realização de catalogação automatizada nas bibliotecas universitárias brasileiras. A conversão retrospectiva possibilita a complementação dos catálogos on-line existentes, integrando catálogos manuais e automatizados e facilitando, principalmente, o acesso à informação. O software OrtoDocs é a tecnologia brasileira de microinformática, que permite a reconversão de catálogos. O Sistema de Bibliotecas da UNICAMP, após a integração à Rede BIBLIODATA/CALCO, parte para a realização da conversão de catálogos, recorrendo às inciativas nacionais na área: CALCO e OrtoDocs.
