Isto porque acredita-se que a maioria desses docentes prioriza seu processo anterior de ensino formal, em detrimento da educação continuada, o que lhes impossibilita a associação entre os diversos acontecimentos mundiais e o avanço do seu ramo específico do saber, comprometendo o crescimento intelectual de toda a comunidade acadêmica e a divulgação da ciência. Para tanto, aplicou-se, em março de 1994, questionário misto a 200 (20%) dos professores, independente de sua área de atuação, para análise de pontos básicos: hábitos de obtenção de informação; influência recebida por profissionais, associações científicas e publicações; hábitos de uso e freqüência a bibliotecas e centros de documentação; procedimentos sistemáticos para elaboração das bibliografias indicadas ao corpo discente.
